Did you know that this area of Pandora was the beginning of China town?  Between 1850 and 1880 there was a row of wooden shacks housing the first Chinese community in Victoria.  Between 1880 and 1900 the Chinese land owners started replacing the wood shacks with western style brick buildings. They were then decorated up in with a more Oriental look with large wooden balconies and decorative canopies. Behind the Pandora china town in 1885 opium was being manufactured. 90,000 pounds of opium was produced annually.  China town eventually migrated north to Fisgard but not before a myriad of alleys and courtyards were built linking all of the architecture.
